Help with White walls
I'm wanting to get me some thin white wall tires and smoothie wheels. I'm thinking 225/75 on 15x7 with baby moons all around. Truck will be lowered 2" in front and 3" rear. My problem is I haven't seen any in person so I need advice on tire and wheel size. Would I be happy with my listed sizes or should I go with 235s? 15x6? From pictures on here I think 215s would be too small for my taste.

Re: Help with White walls
You don't get a lot of selection in sizes with 15" whitewalls anymore. 235/75s are most common. You could pay the price and have Diamondback Classic Tire ( www.dbtires.com ) make any size tire you like into a whitewall any width you like

Re: Help with White walls
I found some Hankook Optimos for under $400. I looked at diamondbacks but I'd prefer to not pay around $250 per tire. Do you think 225s would look ok on a 7" wheel?

Re: Help with White walls
Are those 6 lug, midniteblues? A while back I don't think I could find 6 lugs that would fit our stock hubcaps.

Re: Help with White walls
5 lug i put disc brakes on the front and already had the 71 5 lug rear axle.
6 lug was oe and these caps woulda come on 6 lug wheels. any "nub" style hub cap should fit either 5 or 6 lug wheels unless you have the clip style wheels.

Re: Help with White walls
I just bought a set of the Hankook Optimo h724 235/75/15 last weekend for $370. It's only been a week but I drive this thing 120 mi a day and I really like these tires. The ride is great, they are quiet and I like like how they look. If you want any closer or better pics let me know and I'll get them for you. I'm planning to lower about 4/6 but still staying with this size.

Re: Help with White walls
What width are your wheels? The 235s don't look wide on them in that picture. That's quite a commute, I'm too spoiled with AC to drive either of my old vehicles daily!

Re: Help with White walls
Just a heads up for anyone else, I emailed dbtires and they recommended their M5 tire at $199 per.

Re: Help with White walls
I went with a 15x7. Offset makes all the difference if you ask me. These are 215/70/15. Small, yes but I wanted to retain my inner fenders. The biggest thing is they're Firestone. The name on the sidewall adds a bit of nostalgia. I couldn't afford the Cokers or BFG Silvertowns although I think those are the best looking white walls. Anywhoo, here's a visual on these. Good luck with your decision white walls are a good choice!

Re: Help with White walls
Not positive, but pretty sure, you can get whatever size tire and stripes you want from Diamond Back. The tires in my av are Diamond Back.

Re: Help with White walls
Hankooks are the best deal in whitewall tires, they hold up well and ride good, and perform in adverse weather better than I expected. I run them on my old Benz diesel, and the Cheyenne has some on it, with the whitewalls turned inside. I've seen the really nice stuff from Coker's and others like Diamondback. If I was building a show vehicle or a concours restoration, I'd spring for the high-priced skins, but for a daily driver or just a 'nice truck', the Hankooks work well. I avoid the Kuhmo brand- they make whitewalls, but the tires suck. Cooper makes whitewalls in their cheap line (often branded for different vendors), they suck, too.

Re: Help with White walls
I was the same way when I joined this site, the thin stripe and hubcap look has really grown on me this year. They have their place, I don't like how the thick stripes look on 67-72's but love them on prior years and rat rods.

Re: Help with White walls
I'm sorry, but I just can't come to putting Hankooks on a classic GM Truck. No thanks, I'll spend more to not have an import name

Re: Help with White walls
Firestone used to make a decent whitewall, in their cheap-azz line. They discontinued them about 3 years back. Cooper used to build tires in the states, as did Kelly-Springfield. I don't think compromising actual tire quality (w/ Coopers) overwhelms my preference for good performance and longevity.
