Has anyone put carpet on the lower part of the doors? I 'd like to see somt pics if anyonr has them. j I have speakers there and really dont like the look of the plastic covers. I'm thinking I can put carpet there and cover the speakers so noone will know they are there.

I made some covers and wrapped them in vinyl because somebody butched the speaker holes. Not carpet, but you get the idea.

I've seen the carpet in LMC and the like, and plan on doing the same as you mentioned. I plan on poking holes int he matting of the carpet to help let the sound through easier too.
However, being that I have yet to get the carpet, I have no photos for you... but here's a bump TTT for you though.

I put carpet on the door panels of most of my trucks . I think it feels warmer and helps keep the noise down alittle

i have made panels like this before, and in my experience, the best way to approach this is:

Mount the speakers inside of the door (backside of the sheetmetal), create your panel out of thin MDF, drilling holes to allow sound from the speakers to pass unobstructed, while allowing the panel to retain its structural integrity thereby protecting the speaker.

wrap the panel in the upholstery of your choice. the upholstery will allow the sound to come through, without showing any signs of the speakers. obviously the type of material you choose, and the thickness will determine how much sound is lost, but it is usually minimal.

This practice has been used by automakers for years.

mine is done the same way speakers down there then a viynl covered panel.

Now that I am older my ankles cannot hear as well. That stuff has to go carpet seems liike a good idea.

Guys I have made my own and it is easy. Just make a pattern out of poster board. Cut the pattern out and lay on some 1/8 hard board, stuff peg boards are made out of. Cut out with a jig saw and fit to door. I havent covered mine yet as I was still trying to decide on a color. I will get pics of the panels tomorrow for you guys.

I've got the same ones that Solver has, only black. They fit fine and cover up any speaker hole issues you might have................Jerry

Thanks for all the responses guys. I do like the way it looks and my goal with my interior is to keep it stock with practical upgrades. I've attached a pic of my door panel the way it is now and with new black carpet on the floor and the lower door panels it should look okay. Since the attached pic was taken I have put a new (original style) gauge bezel on the truck and received a Le Carra Steering Wheel for Christmas from my favorite blond, which will be installed as son as I get my truck out of hibernation in April.

Now I just gotta decide on seats. I already had a set of 99 up GM integrated shoulder belt seats but sold them cause I wasnt sure if that is what I wanted.. Decisions, decisions!!!!!!

What's the best way to affix the carpet to the panels? Spray adhesive? Carpet tape? Screws? A combo? Thanks!

I would use spray adhesive. I used to have some that was specifically for use with fabrics. Shouldn't be that hard to find.

I've used the carpet on doors. It looks great, is a refining finishing touch that looks factory. It gives the interior a more car-like vibe if that's what you're after. I plan on this in my '67 project that has 6 x 9 speaker holes. I'm mounting 6 x 9s and will come up with or make grilles that look right with the rest of the interor

Thanks YBNORML. The pair of carpet panels I got from LMC is backed with rigid card-board and covered in vinyl. I'm wondering if the spray adhesive is more for soft flexible stuff like straight carpet? I've seen people use screws and I'm not sure if that's just a finishing look or a requirement to get a rigid piece to hang tight.

I did not do doors but I did do kick panels, and it "warmed" up the interior quite a bit. Less truck like, of course, but nice not having so much exposed steel. Doing the doors would have a similar effect, I imagine. In my case it was just a step too far from stock (arbitrary line), but could be nice.

Most places sell the carpet in bulk chunks. If not, a tank carpet isn't molded or anything, the one I bought is just a flat piece of carpet, so you could order one of those.

Use weatherstrip adhesive. Spray is only good for flat even surfaces.

I ordered kick panel and door carpet for my truck from stockinteriors.com. Haven't installed it yet so no pix. Nice quality tho.

I used nothing - they stick in there fairly tight to begin with, and once you screw the vent brackets in place they're in there pretty solid.

Adhesive would be better, I just didn't want it on my fresh paint in case one day I decided I didn't want the carpet there anymore...
