Super score on a fresh rebuilt 283 longblock with engine stand - for $80

yeap...$80. Local small restoration shop had a customer whom had parked his 65 suburban for a year after just rebuilding the 283 a yr earlier, then when he fired it up it started having a noise from #7 cylinder. The customer told the shop to pull the engine and put in a crate engine, they didnt want to mess with the 283. They pulled the intake and water pump..and listed it on craigslist with the engine stand it was bolted to for $80. I couldnt call fast enough. It came home tonight.

I dont hate 283's, but much rather build larger cubes for the same $. But, hard to pass this up at double the price. The valve covers and engine stand are worth the asking price, and are nice. Oh, the shop did pop the head off and something had been in the cylinder and "boogered" up the piston. I'll see what that means later this week. He said the powerpack heads were fine, they had been rebuilt as well, decked, comp cam cam, lifter, and dual roller timing chain set are all newer as well. Plans are to check out what is wrong, and either fix that, or if the cam specs are something I like I'll pull everything for my existing tired 327.

Cant complain about this purchase!

Yeah LT1, they did deck the block. I was going to see if I can read the numbers, if it wasnt ground too far then the numbers will still show since the metal was compressed using acid.

I cant wait to open it up in the morning...either I got a great deal, or really great deal.
