200-4R Lockup Question
I have a 200-4R that was built by FB Transmissions in New York probably a good 15 years ago now. When it was built it was built with a non-lockup converter for a drag racing application.
I returned it to a stock converter (1500rpm) for use in my truck, and was going to add a lockup harness and speedo monitor, but: - What are the odds that the transmission still has whatever internal components it needs to support it? Like the internal harness. Can I check with the pan off? I'm wondering since it was built as a non-lockup application. I’d hate to buy all of the external stuff, set it up to work with the brake lights and whatnot only to find out it can't do it anyway. Not being a transmission guy, I don't know if that's something that would survive a performance build. Thanks for any guess! I'd particularly like to know if there's any way to check with the pan off, since the pan is off at the moment....

Here is a kit from Bowtie Overdrives for the 2004r. http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=341 There is more in the picture than would be in the trans but you should have the wire loom, small round pressure switch, and the solenoid with the long snout on it. The snout would be up inside the trans and all you would see is the base and bolts. LockDoc

Re: 200-4R Lockup Question
My Regal came with a FB rebuilt transmission. I had lots of issues with it. I bought one from another builder and installed it. I decided to pull the pan off of the old one. There was no harness inside. They had the wiring plugged into the trans but there was nothing hooked to it internally. My bet would be that you do not have the harness in there. It is obvious if you pull the pan.

Re: 200-4R Lockup Question
TCC solenoid wires runs to the driver side case. if you have them it should work by hooking it up to a brake switch. If not in there it shouldn't be hard installing it.. Is there anything other than the TCC? I don't know.

Re: 200-4R Lockup Question
I pointed the tech at this thread since it has good pictures... thanks Joe!
I've got a feeling I'm not going to have a TCC solenoid, 4th gear pressure switch, or even the harness. He didn't mention it was missing (he had the filter out) but I never asked. I had it rebuilt for the truck and the rebuilder didn't mention anything like "Hey did you know all the TCC parts are missing?" but you never know. Now I wish I'd just put in a 4L80E and been done with it, but I'm too far down the money hole on this one to pull the ripcord now.

Re: 200-4R Lockup Question
The parts in the pic could still be in there, without the lock up converter and if you don't hook up power to the TCC you won't have lock up. I have the converter and all the lock up parts installed, I just never hooked up to the brake pedal. << I've got a feeling I'm not going to have a TCC solenoid, 4th gear pressure switch, or even the harness.>> they're easy enough to put in, ( if thats all that was missing internally)

Re: 200-4R Lockup Question
Mine was missing all the clips that held the wiring as well. Check to make sure you have those or can get them if needed. Did you have them build that trans or did you buy it that way? Not really much info floating around on them that I could find.
