Hey guys ...Merry Christmas to one and all !!!!
Now on to my question...I have a 67 6cyl. with a 3 speed trans and would like to upgrade to 4 or 5 speed....Does anything just bolt in with present clutch and bellhousing ? What would be the best/easiest way to go ??

4 speed wouldn't be an upgrade, per se, just an extra gear with the same final drive ratio of 1:1. So, no mileage improvement or reduced highway rpm. And if you go with a granny 4, the low gear is all but unusable for street driving. So, u need a 5 sp. on my phone right now, so can't find it, but if you google (on this site) another way to skin the cat, you'll find and thread about how to deal in a T5. As long as you don't do too many burnouts, it'll be fine. Fun to drive, usable 1st and o/f 5th. Nice setup.

Another option you may want to look at is the New process A833. GM offered it in their trucks in the early 80's. Its a four speed, with forth being an overdrive.
It's a rare trans, but a few still out there. Came factory with a "hurst" type shifter on the floor. I have had two of them.. both cam in 1982 GM two wheel drive half tons with the 6.2 Diesel. (The 6.2 diesel had the same bell housing bolt pattern as small block Chevy's or 6 cyl)
I have actually bolted a "farmer 4 speed" from a 350 equipped truck to a 6.2 Diesel.

Are you looking for overdrive? Doc posted a link, but the truck 4spd, Muncie car 4spd, as well as their HP 4spds, except fine spline all work.

I'm a 4spd luvin fool. I'm building my '67 to be "Of the era hot truck" and am dead set on using an M22 I have. Those car 4spds have rear mounts, which use the crossmember from an automatic. Or, I should say they give you the option of bellhousing or rear mount. I'm doing rear mount with an aluminum car bellhousing (no front mount), because it's a custom-built hot rod.

I'll have to buy or build another one to get overdrive

. Actually, I have two planned* and at least one will get o/d. Any financiers out there? They'd be nice ones

*Who am I kidding? I have so many dreamed up there aren't enough left on the planet to do them all......................................if I had the money........a place to keep them all properly...and 100 more years to live! (< shush...fool, just a foot note)

67 3 sp. could be a m318 with non sycro first or a sag fully sycro 3 sp. if it's a sag. the sag 4 speed will go right in there and use the same clutch and drive shaft. But as mentioned before, you will still get the same rpm in high gear. Still, way nicer then a 3 sp. and of course ya have to put the shifter on the floor.

That A833 was the 3spd+ o/d. A Saginaw 4spd will give better fuel economy overall over the 3spd, but hiway is the same

You could probably us a NV3500 but i would not recommend it for use behind a V-8.

Saginaw 4 speed with the Hurst linkage designed for our trucks The three rings on the input shaft denotes that it has the wider gear ratios. It's probably from a Vega.
