60-62 lower ball joints vs 63+ ball joints

I'm in the middle of mocking up my front end before disassembly for final paint, and I've ran into a situation. I've boxed my stock 60 torsion lower arms for bags, and removed the bump stop brace. As any one who has pulled the early lowers knows, the ball joint has two bolts to the arm, and one to the bump stop. I'm going to be using other means for a bump stop.
It would be ashame to clutter up the work I've done to the arms, and build a brace got the lower ball joint. Is the taper of the later style the same as my early. And would it be feasible to just drill a couple holes to bolt in the later ball joint, it being more readily available, not to mention more affordable?

Cannot answer your question; however if you go to Advance Auto Parts website & compare pictures of the '64-up lower b-j to the pics of yours, you will see the '64-up is not held in w/bolts, but just pressed in. No way to bolt it in that is readily apparent from comparing the 2 pics. HTH.

The 60-62 ball joints are totally different than 63-70.

Wow... Did you read the original post? I am aware that the joints aren't the same, that is the reason for the question... I wasn't aware, but thanks to luvbowtie stated that the newer joints are pressed in, not bolted in. I will have to figure something else out. Thanks luvbowtie, I appreaciate the response .

Yeah, I read it, and the two types are so far apart that they won't interchange-there's no way to drill a pressed in ball joint-there's nothing to drill into. You've obviously never looked at the two types of ball joints nor the control arms.

If your set on using your early crossmember/arms, then get some DOM and fab up ur own weld in bungs to accept later BJ's.....

Digging up bones! My PB arms are 2" id and 2.75 " od for 73up ball joint.

I did the same thing I boxed the arms but I kept the original ball joints but this sounds like a good way to go if you can make it work

Old school minis had torsion bars. I remember some did bag over bar. I think I have a picture of 57 truck with bag on top arm. Took it for ???? Factor.

I don't see why someone couldn't fab up something like the end of this 73-87 lower arm that would bolt in just like the lower 60-62 ball joints.

Or maybe the end of the 73-87 lower control arm can be cut off and then bolted to the 60-62 lower arm.
