Fleetside Tail Light Housing Question
I have media blasted and cleaned the tail light housings and back up light housings for a fleetside and have a dumb question. Do you paint the recessed area around the bulb sockets a reflective silver or white? I seem to remember seeing some step side (round) tail lights that were white over the entire face of the housing.
If they weren't painted with reflective paint originally, wouldn't it make sense to add a reflective paint to make them a little brighter? Thanks, POP

Re: Fleetside Tail Light Housing Question
Metallic silver I believe. In some cases I've used 3M mylar foil tape (like a mirror) to line the housings. I did that one the back of the speedo and fuel as well because the tach is so much brighter than the other gauges.
Since no one will ever see it, I'd use the most reflective coating you can. Here's what I did to mimic the originals; I then added the mylay foil tape to the deep recesses. No idea if it's fireproof though... it's just the expensive HVAC stuff.

I've used White paint, Silver paint, Chrome paint, and Cold Galvanizing Compound, and they all seem to work OK. The Cold Galvanizing Compound works the best for keeping any rust from starting inside the housings..... LockDoc

Re: Fleetside Tail Light Housing Question
Thanks guys. I think Rustoleum has a new and improved "chrome" color that is pretty reflective, too. I'm going to experiment a little to see what I like best.
