ANOTHER 292 L6 with 600 edlbrock running issues. QUESTION

been a while since I've post on here but my old girl has finally thrown me a small issue that I am stumped on, and I'm reaching out for assistance. I gone threw the entire fuel system and it's fine new filter. Clean tank. New lines. New pump. Fresh rebuilthe 600 edlbrock manual choke. Just took the top off last let night and wasted 2 cans of carb cleaner on it. Maybe 4k miles on new Ac Delco plugs. Fresh coil on hei dizy. Valves sealed and adjusted. Cam in good shape. Everything engine wise is sound. Timing is around 6 to 8 degrees advanced. But what's she's doing now is after running round the block common up to stops she drops idle down to around 200. Just barley running and contnuind to drop untill dead, maybe starVing for air?. A week ago she was running like a top. No issues at all. Then all of a sudden she starts tripping up. Before this she would hesitate during shifts HARD and usually kill the engine and wouldn't start for few seconds. I thought maybe the accelerator pump on the carb. (I belive that's what it's called) took it apart clened out. Problem solved. Not the low idle. I should mentioned that after warming up it'll idle right around 500 or so where it should be but it almost feels like it gets "trapped " in a low idle unless I tap the gas. Any helps apreciated. I found tons of motor geeks on here that are very helpfull.

Check to make sure that you have the idle set with out the fast idle cam engaged. That can cause an issue like you are describing. Also the Edelbrocks don't like more than about 4 psi fuel pressure.

Thanks jimmy. I'm not sure what the mechanical pump pushes for pressure. But I think the fast idle cam isn't engaged at all. I'v just made adjustments to the throttle stop screw. I do have some random throttle return springs. On there just so it pulls the linkage back. I'm using an absolute POS cable linkage If that helps.

Re: ANOTHER 292 L6 with 600 edlbrock running issues. QUESTION

I'd invest in a fuel pressure gauge and an adjustment meter so you can keep the pressure at no more than 5 psi. I'm sure it is...but double check and make sure your choke is all the way open. If the choke is half way closed it can block air. You can also advance the timing a bit more too. I had mine set at 10 initial and it performed nicely. Also your valve adjustment can cause issues with idling....if they are too tight it may idle ok when cold but when hot the idle will drop down and also you'll have sputtering and no power.

Re: ANOTHER 292 L6 with 600 edlbrock running issues. QUESTION

Thanks tj. I don't think the valves are the culprit this time. I'm thinking it was either an electrical or fuel issue. But what I can't figure out is WHY. It ran fine just the other week. When the wet weather started I started having some issues. Leading me to belive it was electeical. I don't know tho still stumped. I'll tinker with it tomorrow a little more

read the plugs, check vacuum, double check the coil, new ones can still be bad.
