Question for welders: has anyone made their own rear step bumper?

I am learning how to weld and I'd like to have a step bumper. Has anyone made their own here? Do you have tips and pics?

Re: Question for welders: has anyone made their own rear step bumper?

Look at an existing fab'd one and talk to the guy who made it, if possible. First off he'll likely be eager to tell you (a) how he did it, and (b) what he'd do different in version 2.0

When dealing with plate turn up the amps, stitch weld rather than running a giant bead, and pick a workable material (less than 1/4" plate maybe)? Sorry, I'm not a pro welder, but there weren't any replies... maybe I can attract a correction or two :-)

Factor bumpers are stampted out of 1/8th or 3/32nd at best, so they're surprisingly lighter and thinner than what you'd fab.
