Patina is earned, not made. I would just clean things up good and leave them be.
As tim said, why ruin good paint? On my patina truck i wish i had more paint on it. Will be down to metal and start rusting one day...

Same truck, nothing SOS pads, acetone and Ajax can't fix,top off with Carnuba Wax.

"PATINA"
pa·ti·na pəˈtēnə/ noun a green or brown film on the surface of bronze or similar metals, produced by oxidation over a long period. a gloss or sheen on wooden furniture produced by age and polishing. NONE of your "patina" is real on any of these trucks unless your trucks are made of BRONZE, COPPER, or WOOD..... So to keep using this 'word' as some kind of VINTAGE or NOSTALGIC price increasing means is just plain absurd..... No disrespect but..... These trucks are just plain ole RUSTY! ---- thats all there is to it, if somebody wants to pay EXTRA for what they believe is a "cool" look.... well then to each their own.

I just wished I'd bought a bunch of these rusty old trucks before the "patina" adjective was coined........
thanks to the "American Pickers" show.....everybody thinks any kind of junk stuff (not vehicles) they have, is worth a fortune.....years ago you couldn't give it away....the junk yards were full of "patina" vehicles.....

My 1958 Fender Stratocaster shows its long life by its aged ,worn off tobacco stained paint,belt buckle scratches ect. That Patina was earned and actually makes it sound better! Ask Willie Nelson when he's going to refinish his old acoustic guitar "Trigger"? Neither of us would dream of destroying that patina, they both get mechanically repaired to perform well but leave the rest alone.
Same thing with my Blazer, 48 years of wear and tear on the original paint etc shows it a survivor. As a sculptor I patinate my bronzes with acids and a blowtorch to give the metal colors and a unique look and feel. British dictionary Patina " 3.the sheen on a surface that is caused by much handling" As far as making a truck or car finish look old, "patina ting" not being legit cause it didn't take 45 yrs to develop, how is that different from painting a car a non-stock color or installing non-factory performance parts on an antique vehicle. It's a slippery slope, stock purists look down on those who alter a vehicle with anything not OEM. I personally like them all,Concours, Hot Rod, Rat Rod they're all good and different thank goodness, how boring otherwise. I'm a major offender, late model seats, in a vehicle scrubbed and waxed after many years of service, I'm even going to put a stock looking Bluetooth radio in it! Lighten up Francis! 😁 |
