Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
So tracked my rattle down to the panhard bar hitting the '65 mustang tank I have mounted between the rails under the bed. I'm lowered 4/6 so know I need a new panhard bar, but plenty of people are running this setup and I haven't been able to find anything about it searching. Just wanna make sure I don't get a new trac bar that ends up having the same or worse issue.
Anyone else have this issue and can confirm what aftermarket bar will work without hitting the tank or diff? If not am I better off denting the tank in a little to clear or moving the mount? Thanks |

Yup more info would help. I've attached pics but not sure if it's working on my phone. It's a 69 truck with coil suspension.

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
You can get a longer bar and bend it to go past the tank and rear end or relocate the upper mount

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
X2 on modifying the bar. how about pushing the tank in a little where the bar touches?

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
Going to the long track bar like ECE's super track bar will give you the adjustable feature and get the bar away from the tank.

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
I also have a 69 , and used a Mustang tank , I found that the 65 mustang/comet tank hang to low for my liking the seam of the tank has much more offset leaving the tank to hang low , this was done to keep the height of the tank level with the trunk floor on the 65 mustang.
if I remember about 7 inches or so below frame on the c10 at its lowest point. When looking in to the various sizes for various years for mustang tanks I found the upgraded 20 gallon 71-73 mustang tank had more offset towards the top of the tank So when fitted between frame rail on the C10 I ended up with about 4'' 1/2' -5 '' of tank at its lowest point under the c10 frame . I would just slide the tank back a bit , but I am sure you have thought of that already and there is a reason you can not do so. |

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
Jrainman the 71 mustang was the first year the top of the gas tank wasn't part of the trunk floor like the 64-70 years.

Re: Panhard bar hitting mustang tank
Understand that , this is why the 71-73 gas tank center seam ( support) is lower giving the tank more on top then bottom when mounting , giving more ground clearance this is my 71-73 mustang 20 gallon upgrade tank from CJ pony parts
