Tailight issue

I replaced the old light sockets with these.

I soldered the wires together with the appropriate corresponding wire but the only light that is working is the brake light, no turn signal or actual lights for night driving.

Does anyone know what the issue could be and yes I have checked the fuses and those are fine.

Did they work before you installed this? How is it grounded? That socket says its for a courtesy light. If you used one wire for the ground then only one half the bulb will work. If you have the wires right and the socket grounded to the body then you need to get a test probe and start checking wires for power back to the fuse panel.

The socket you used looks like it's made for an 1156 single filament bulb you need one for an 1157 2 filament bulb ,use the search on the top of the page and you will get all the info you need .

It's only a 2 wire pigtail. So my question is how would I ground it to the truck? Because one wire is for the brake light and the other is a ground.

And no the lights didn't work before. I had to replace the whole wiring harness for the truck

Is one of the slots in the bulb holder deeper than the other one or are they both the same depth? That holder is for a dual element bulb otherwise there would only be one contact in the center of the base.

One wire is for running lights the other is for turn signal. It grounds through the housing. Make sure your housing is grounded to the box and the box is grounded to the frame.

Kennuck, would I just need a ground strap to ground it? Just trying to cover all the bases to get it road worthy and then start updating everything through time.

If both slots are the same depth then it's not the right bulb holder. The link you posted clearly shows a two contact bulb holder which would be right for an 1157 bulb for tail lights. You may want to check that again.

If it has two contacts in the bottom with two wire out the back it should be for an 1157 and be the right one for this application.

The housing usually grounds to the box by the mounting screws holding it to the box. If there is not good contact here you can add a ground strap from the box to the tail light housing to be sure. Again make sure your box is grounded to the frame as well.

One wire is for stop and turn the other wire is for tail lights. And the ground is the case. Make sure you have a good ground or it will try find ground thru the other wire. The heavy fillament in the bulb is your stop and turn

Looking more closely at the link you posted, it does look like the slots are the same depth. This is not the right bulb holder. This says it is for a dome lamp which in most cases does need a ground wire because they are often mounted in a plastic case. You need the type posted by LocDoc
