Possible second build

So I'm up visiting my mom and her husband this weekend and he mentions the neighbors have a couple old Chevy pickups that he was thinking about buying. A few years ago they had me build a 68 Impala for them. Ramjet 350, 700r4, ac cruise etc. Turned out to be a nice road trip car.
Anyway, the green truck in the picture was the one he was thinking about. I'm not sure which direction he wants to go. Stock appearing mainly. They have a small farm they live on up in South Dakota. If they stay 2wd I'm thinking mustang 2 front end stock frame. Myself I'm thinking 4wd s10 chassis, stock vortec v8, smooth steel wheels and the original caps. All still planning at this stage. Thoughts? Opinions welcome
Nick

Re: Possible second build

Looks to be a solid platform to start with. If it where mine I would use the stock frame aftermarket IFS and modern drive train and call it good. Hard to beat a stock set up with quality upgrades.

Re: Possible second build

If they go stay 2wd, that was the route I was thinking. My 47 build is going to be alot more involved with the modified S10 chassis but this one I was thinking more simple.

Re: Possible second build

Is that a 9' bed? If so they are pretty rare, especially in what looks to be good condition. My vote is leaving that one as is. The bed and running boards are worth a good bit to a restorer, but not so much to the average joe. If you cut it up post those parts up for sale on stovebolt.com or oldgmctrucks.com so one of those folk can put them to good use.

Re: Possible second build

Fear not, if this one gets built it will still be the long box. Visually, not much will change. How high would the front end sit with a solid 4wd under the stock leaf springs?

Nick, this would be the way I would go too. Probably with a 4 link for rear suspension.

Re: Possible second build

Should be close to this 54 Napco if you mean a solid front axle.
