Donor Trucks?
What has everyone used as for a donor truck? Or what everyone would suggest to look for at say a Pull-a-Part places and such.
I know it is an odd question but trying to grow my knowledge some since this is my first build. Appreciate the help and advise in advance

It might help to know a little more about your plans for your truck, that way we can point you in a more specific direction. The first things that come to mind as things you might want from a donor truck are the factory disk brake set ups and 5 lug axels that 71' and 72' trucks have. As I said it really depends on what you need for your truck. Oh and congrats on starting your first build.

My plan is to get it drivable and then start with the restoring and updating.
I know I need a brake booster, steering column, would also like to update the steering wheel until I can fill the cracks on the original. I had seen in a build where someone had used an S10 steering wheel but unsure what was updated or changed for it to fit.

The s/10 wheels and even the full size truck wheels up to 94 will bolt up to the stock column.

I am rebuilding my 1972 C1500 after a wreck. I was lucky to find a 1972 GMC C2500 as a donor for a lot of parts.

Hmm well what all does it need to be drivable? As far as brake boosters go I'd say you'll find a lot more 71' and 72' model trucks with power brakes compared earlier years. I'm sure someone here knows for sure but my 72 C20 had a bigger booster and stopped better than my 71 1/2 ton GMC does. If all 3/4 ton trucks with power brakes had bigger boosters that might be something to look at when looking for a donor, especially since the C20s are generally cheaper.
