Is there a small to big window conversion?

I am looking at a custom crew cab build for sale and they have a small window built in. I prefer the large rear window and I can't just switch cabs.

Any options on this with out a lot of work?

Chris

Find a cab with a big back window, cut it out and then patch it into your truck.

I would guess you would need to make an oversized rectangular template that is about 2" larger than the big window and use that as a template for both trucks. They make panel clamps to make the job easier than just using a magnet to hold the panels in alignment.

The welding without a lot of distortion is going to be the hardest part.

Interesting question. While you wait for the answer, lemme just say this: the small window is just rare enough to make it appealing to me. Only came on some 1967 trucks. If it were mine, I would leave it. But it's not mine, so.... good luck! I hope you find the answer you're looking for.

I like small window cabs, but they made small window cabs well into the 80s for big trucks. With a crew cab id definetly want the visibility of a big glass.
Cut and weld is the only option. There's plenty of scrap cabs to choose from.

There is a CL listing in south new jersey for a GM NOS entire rear cab section ,

I know..... but I figured we were talking about '67-'72 pickups.

After so many years of driving trucks with outside mirrors only, I don't look through the rear glass very often. In fact I removed my '72's inside mirror because 1) oncoming headlights at night appear as rapidly overtaking traffic from behind, and 2) I wasn't using that mirror anyway.

Re: Is there a small to big window conversion?

I did the reverse of what you're wanting on my 88 GMC, if you click the link in my sig labeled "driver" you may get some idea of what you'd be getting into

I'm with others, as much as I love the small back window of the 67, in a crew cab it would be a pain to see out of and I would rather have a large back window... Can't say that I would cut out a small window to change it tho

Re: Is there a small to big window conversion?

I figure all that work was done to build that cab, I'd leave it be and keep looking. Custom-built crew cabs aren't everywhere but, chances are, any you find will have a big back window. Let someone who appreciates the small window have this one. I'd sooner build another crew cab than redo that one.
