Relocated bedside filler caps...... Tell me more please.

My truck has a relocated tank.

Today, as is a regular occurrence when mate Martin pops in , he made another suggestion that could end up in tears.

My tank filler is currently up the inside of the rear bed.

Martin suggested I look at using some bits from a Mazda Miata that were laying around to create a side filler with door in the bed side.

Of course there are various solutions, including the bed floor mounted filler.

I do not want a bed floor mounted cap as my truck need to be a working truck with the rear bed always a load bed for stuff to be thrown into.

Somy question is really....

Tell me what solutions are out there.

What donor parts have been used successfully to weld a filler door into the bedside?

Thanks as always.

Nice idea and has been done on here.

Not my ideal idea.

Paul "NevEno" today texted me some pics of a filler cap relocated into the bedside stake pocket, looks good to me. Though I would retain my stake pockets and manufacture a section right next to it so that one could still top fill.

Hoping someone has identified some truck or car filler caps that suit our Fleetside profile and can get fitted without too much drama.

Rian

This was on my 70. It was from a early 90's GM truck.

I think you can make a side filler look just fine on your truck and functional. Especially with the welding skills around your neck of woods.

It took a lot of work for me as this was my first try at something like this.

Depending on the tank and nozzle fill tube (I used a S10 Blazer) you use, you may have to finish the inside of the bed a little. I used an extra, beatup bed tube to blend it in.

I am sure you and your crew can figure out something even better.

Then again you could just leave it the way it is and make sure that space stays clear when loading it so you can get a gas pump in there.

Thank you for the replies and ideas guys.

Suburban is a nice idea but no donors in the UK.

Certainly the easiest option.

Here are some pics I got sent by Paul and Martin.

Quite like this one.

Not sure what donor the orange one used.

Looks neat though.

Re: Relocated bedside filler caps...... Tell me more please.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Looking at various options, I have decided that I may be better off trying to relocate the filler neck and cap to just ahead of the rear bed stake pocket.

My plan is to buy and import an Extang Black Max tonneau cover for the truck.

That is, if I can find one from them that is made for a 66 C10 Short Fleetside. I previously looked on their site, but old not seem to find one.

If I have that, then placing the filler neck in the rear corner, just below the bedside top edge should make it work.

Buying and importing a complete section from a Suburban would probably cost me why some guys pay for complete trucks in the USA.
