Stupid Question

I am having a mental break down does the stock oil pan take 4 or 5 quarts at an oil change?

Also how often does everyone change oil? I only put about 300 miles a month and hate to change it every three months as that is only about 1000 miles?

Stock 350 engine oil pan holds 4 quarts and one for the filter, so with a filter change it takes 5 quarts. I pour all I can in the filter before installing it. This gives you a slight amount of oil to the engine quicker on initial startup.

I change my oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. Like you, I don't drive my truck much, so it's usually every 3 months, with very few miles on it.

Oil sitting in the pan not being used much builds up all kinds of stuff and needs changing just as bad as using it for 3,000 miles. Besides, it's cheap insurance. $10.00 to $15.00 is not bad every three months. Keeping the oil clean and changed is the life of an engine. It sure is nice when you remove the intake and it's clean as a whistle in the lifter valley.

That is true swervin the guy before me used castrol synth blend 20w50 so that is what I have been using. It starts fine on cold mornings and seems to get good pressure. Just never used 20w50.
