83 K10 Wiring Help
Well the Sony radio the previous owner installed doesnt work. I checked and it doesnt look like they hooked the wiring up. The factory plugs were cut off and the wiring is just there but not hooked to anything. I planned on running new speaker wires so that doesnt matter much. The part Im not sure on is there are only 3 wires left.....yellow, black, and gray. The black is ground obviously. Im guessing the yellows go together. Everything I find says gray is illumination. Where do I connect the orange wire?

Re: 83 K10 Wiring Help
78-up look like this:
The top (blue) connector is for rear speakers (not used on all applications) Light Blue = RR - Yellow = LR - Dark Blue = RR + Brown = LR + The middle (white) connector is for front speakers (some trucks only use 2 wires on this plug if they have a single dash speaker). Dark Green = RF - Light Gray = LF - Light Green = RF + Tan = LF + The next to bottom (black) connector is for power/light/ground. yellow=ignition +12V gray = headlamp dimmer black = ground pink = Power Ant on Smaller black connector at the bottom is only used on radios with a digital tuner. orange wire is constant +12V for the clock/station memory brown wire is a "lights on" signal to dim the display

Re: 83 K10 Wiring Help
So the orange wire and the yellow wire from the radio hook to the yellow? I'm just confused about where to put the orange or yellow from the new deck. I'm pretty sure I don't have the last plug. If it's there I haven't found it.

Best I can tell you if you don't have a manual is to Google your Brand and Model Number for a manual to get the wiring diagram.

Re: 83 K10 Wiring Help
My issue isn't with the radio harness that comes with a new deck. It's the harness in the truck. There is no orange wire in my truck. There are the 8 speaker wires, a gray, yellow, and black.

As mentioned already, you can make use of your truck's yellow wire for your stereo's switched +12V feed. But since you don't have the orange wire, you'll have to run your own wire for your stereo's constant +12V feed. A good place to connect that would be to one of the "BATT" receptacles in the fuse box. |
