Question Front Shackle Angle Q's

Alright everyone this is the front shackle of my k30 frame. Is this going to be good once I get the weight of my body engine etc etc on it, or will it bottom out and hit the frame first? What do I need to do if this is wrong? Help!

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

your front springs look too long. Are those the original shackels? I have the ORD front Shackles and they are almost verticle. I think your going to hit the frame

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

Those are 52's out of a 1989 k20. And 7.25" or shackles.

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

um, assuming that you mean 52's (rear leaf springs) out of a 1989 k20, there is your problem. they are too long. your definately going to hit the frame. You need the correct spring length, as well as the correct spring height.

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

looking at your bottom photo, I can tell that they are rear leaf springs from the thick bottom flat spring in the spring pack. Front springs are narrower and much shorter that rear leaf springs. Im not saying that what you are doing cannot be accomplished, but, There is such a thing as the mysterious "death wobble". You would be miles ahead to have your original springs re-arched, or add the ORD 1" zero rate spring in the front, or buy the correct springs.

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

Trying to do thr 52" spring swap, and also achieve more flex. My superlift 8" springa are MUCH MUCH too stiff and are like a log truck.

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

Thoughts, as my 52's are staying. If my suspension droops, it'll straighten the shackle out... so ok there. But compression is my concern. If I put my mount back In the original spot won't that put the mount FACING forward, and will give me much much more room to compress when I soak up bumps?

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

It's always hard to tell with no weight on the chassis but the springs will flatten out some so the shackle will move back. That said, I started with 7.25" shackles and they had my caster all wacked out causing death wobble. I swapped to 6" shackles and brought my caster back into spec and the angle is still good.

I'd probably hold off on any more changes until you get at least most of the weight on it but I bet a short shackle is the answer.

Re: Front Shackle Angle Q's

The thoughts are, as it compresses, it will only go as far back (bottom of shackle) until the spring flattens. Once it goes past that the spring will negative arch and the shackle will come back away from the frame right?
