need input on this
ok, i have a 86 4.3L V6 , that is carbureted. my plan is to change the stock intake with a Edelbrock 2111 intake , change the 4 barrel stock carberator with a Edelbrock 1404 (500cfm) caburetor, i am removing all the electronics computers and will need tto change the distributor to non computerized MSD . has anyone done this, my goal is to make this V6 run with out any computers.

Re: need input on this
there were a few carbureted 4.3 V6 cars and trucks, try the 84-85 fullsize and same year gbody (monte carlo, malibu, el camino). personally I would buy a new distributor than a 30 year old one, so rockauto or o'reillys should have the parts you need.
and if you have all the harness and computer and the engine runs you are adding a layer of complexity and expense that you dont really need, my advice: install it, get it running, then do your carb and distributor swap. just my opinion though, and my opinion is only worth what it cost.

Re: need input on this
I just did a quick google search for an HEI distributor for a 4.3 V6 1985 el camino and this came up.

Re: need input on this
There wasn't a single wire HEI built from the factory for the 4.3,
Here's a little info that might help, http://blog.wrenchmanrepair.com/2012...ei-conversion/ |

Re: need input on this
that looks like totally less work than just using the tbi setup that you already have. I'm just being smarmy of course, but looks like good info if thats really what you want to do.

Re: need input on this
O'Reilly's does show a vacuum advance distributor for the 4.3 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...2780&ppt=C0334
Evidently the 4.3 came with either a vacuum controlled distributor or a a full computer controlled version in 1985. The compatibility list is the same on the one from OReilly's as the one Joedoh showed if you are inclined to go junk yard hunting.
