Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
anyone? I'm interested in the handling of these trucks. Not neccesarily building custom tube frames, but rigidity, weight transfer, etc. Been snooping around Rob's "make it handle" thread.

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
A 2wd truck with a mildly modified engine would do very well I think compared to that

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
I can't find anywhere around here besides SCCA solo that races. Even drag tracks are a million miles away... from central AR.
And I'm 1.3 inches too long to run Solo unless they make an exception for my 79 pickup... which would be a serious long shot. They preach and preach, "Don't RACE on the road" but they don't want to have any tracks for folks that want to run what they brung. |

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
Im looking to setup my truck for "touge" aka, windy mountain roads, for those of you that dont know.
I come from a all performance honda backround, no ricer body kits, fart cans, none of that crap. The truck is my daily driver. But its hard not to want to take turns fast in it. Ive tri podded it a few times, never slid on concrete... yet My plan is 3/5 drop Drop springs Flip Kit Decent Shocks Thickest Solid sway bars etc. I still want it to be a truck of course. But ill check out that "make it handle" thread. Really happy to see other people are interested in this, i thought i was one of the few.

[QUOTE=N2TRUX;4143003]Why not use the AGR replacement box?
AGR Truck and SUV Steering Box- LINK I dont have the AGR box (I would if I knew it was only $340), but I do have the CPP Quick Ratio box on my '69. Cant tell you how good it is though, because the body is still off the frame

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
Oh, absolutely! It wasn't fast, but I was commended by numerous drivers for going as quick as I had and not spinning it out.

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
I know this thread is old but i have been building a truck specifically for the autocross. The local import and mustangs give a dirty look or two but the other seems to dig it. I am at the limit of my cheap used tires i bought but given that handicap i am right there with the mustangs i am classed with in SCCA. its possible to make a truck competitive in the autocross.

Re: anyone ever autocross/road race their truck?
Its not a 73-87 but it's the same crossmember so it would all work on one. This is what I put together for my '66. Raised the crossmember 1.5", notched it 2.0" for oil pan clearance, No Limit Engineering rack kit, Porterbuilt 1" forward/1" narrowed arms, Airlift D2600 bags with the upper mounts raised 2", CPP Modular spindles, CPP forged hubs, six piston Brembo calipers from a 2nd gen CTS-V, 14.5" Stoptech cryo treated rotors, and .500" taller QA1 upper ball joints for more camber gain. I still need to figure out a sway bar and shock mounts. The rear will be a three link with full length panhard rod holding a 9" in place.
I tried to fit 335/30-18's but 12" rims won't quite clear the A-arms at full lock. I'll have to drop back to 10.5-11" and 305 or 315's.
