SCORED a 396 but...need info

I just picked up a rebuilt 396 for 500$$--what mounts can I use to stuff this into a '68 stepside????

Those mounts bolt directly to the frame. You will need to drill one additional hole in the cross-member but the upper holes are alread there in the frame as is one of the lower holes on the x-member.

This is not as easy as an I6 to a small block swap.

Assuming 2wd, you'll need to consider:

1. Driveshaft shortening. The BB sits the engine back towards firewall somewhat.

2. Along the same lines, you'll need to address column shift linkage or floor shift location as well as clutch linkage.

3. The accessory brackets and exhaust manifolds are completely different than those on a smallblock and expensive to locate.

4. Fan shroud is different.

5. You may need a high hump for your cab as well.

I've done this swap, but I was fortunate enough to have a complete unmolested donor to grab the necessary pieces from.

Javy, Nice motor! I guess you have never had a carb backfire through those "firestarter" aircleaners...LOL! Get a hip mount for your fire extinguisher!

As sweet as that hig rise is, you really should get rid of the air filters, they are a seriouse fire hazzard.

Air cleaners

I agree, those air cleaners are a fire hazard--happened to me in my 10th Anniversary Trans Am. NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!!!!!
