Cut Dash, Wasn't me!

This is how my dash came. Do any of you have a link to a bracket or something to fill the single DIN hole with a headunit?

When you buy an aftermarket stereo, it come with a metal sleeve that goes in there. Then the stereo slides into the sleeve. Those little "V" shaped cutouts get bent up behind the dash to hold the sleeve in place. You can get just the sleeve from Amazon or your local stereo shop if you already have a head unit.

there will also be a stud on the back of your stereo head unit for a hanger strap
be sure to use it

Like Ogre said, use that strap that comes with it, these trucks can shake a CD to death, plus it helps with the grounding. Your hole looks about the right size, at least it isn't all butchered up like my 69 i had. The PO of it carved it all up and stuck a Chrysler infinity with a CD out of a 98 Caravan in it. Took me a month of fabricating, and painting to fill the hole to put in a single din CD stereo.

I have the same issue on 68. The problem I see is the knob holes that are left a little bit don't always tuck behind a new radio face. WHY WOULD ANYONE GO THROUGH ALL THAT WORK TO CUT UP THAT DASH?

They sell a plate to go behind it, but every time I see one they are billet and like $60.... I am not into shiny things anyways. I would buy one for $10 if they made em that cheap.

Yeah I agree, I was thinking of making a plate out of an old street sign or license plate. Unless I can find a donor dash cheap.

Tip of the day for stereo installer-types. If you install a stereo and get spark-plug static....pull the radio and use a copper braided strap from the nut on the back of the radio to a good groud. You have now created what is called a Faraday cage. You have turned the radio case into a grounded part of the car, and the braid cancels out unwanted noise from the car electrical system.
