Cruise control opinions?
I'm in the middle of an 86 chevy crew cab cummins swap, about half way through hooking up a Painless wiring harness. I need to finalize the list of accessories that will need to be planned (wired for) out before I can finish the wiring project. One of those items is some kind of a cruise control. I have all the pieces to put together a chevy diesel cruise but I dont know if I want to use the stock system or not. Anybody have any suggestions??
TIA, Mike

Re: Cruise control opinions?
If you have a complete 83-87 Cruise III system it'll work just fine but it's fairly complex and I'm not going to guarantee parts availability.
The 88-95 GMT400 chassis cruise box will work quite well too and it's dead simple to retrofit. The 68-82 Cruisemaster system is easy to retrofit but it's getting harder to source rebuilt transducers so...

Re: Cruise control opinions?
I would just check with one of the hot rod suppliers like Dakota digital for one their kits made by rosta. The street rod group is always putting together odd combos of drivetrains and bodies. If it has a place for a speedo connection then you just need to install a speed generator in line with the speedo cable.

Re: Cruise control opinions?
Go to the manuals page and download the GM cruise control textbooks. The newest one is for the T400 cruise control.
You need a working optical VSSB on your speedometer, cruise control brake/clutch switches, cruise control stalk switch, the correct throttle cable, the correct DB2 cruise cable bracket, and then you get to roll your cruise control wiring sub-harness. The Dieselpage has a writeup but it's in the subscription side. It's also available in Volume II of their article compilations books for about the same as a subscription... http://www.thedieselpage.com/65bookii.htm If it looks like more than you want to bite off then get a Rostra.
