700 r4 question

Is there something in a 700 r4 that will cause it not to shift out of low gear?? Here's the deal, pulling a trailer to the racetrack, tranny shifted firm and nice, leave the track and it stops shifting out of low. Any ideas??

How long ago did you have this built? If recent it could be a very small piece of trash in the valve body. I have seen lint from red shop rags cause this problem. If not recent rebuild, I would not have a clue.

I have a 700r4 in my belair. the first trans I had blew when i was screwing around doing burnouts in an industrial area out near the airport. It was fragged & it wouldnt shift out of first gear. I drove home in first gear @ 3000rpm @ 15mph. I'm not saying your trans is gone but this is what mine did when it went.

Can you manually upshift it? If you can put it in low and upshift it manually it is a govenor problem.(Stripped plastic gear is most common problem) If it won't manually upshift it is probobly a broken TV cable or a valve body problem.
