283 engine pics
I'm looking for pics of all original 283's only, in Subs, Panels or Pickups. I've got mine looking mostly original but would like to see what you all have, including plug wires, hoses etc.

Re: 283 engine pics
Mine is kinda sorta correct, I bought most of the bolts, plug wire brackets and so forth from Corvette Suppliers. Some guys have the 283 decal on both valve covers but one on the drivers side is correct. I had mine rebuilt and it leaks oil like the Exxon Valdez, If I had it to do all over again I'd buy a 350 Crate and be done with it.

Re: 283 engine pics
Driver side rear valve cover, cartridge oil filter leaked oil as fast as you could pour it in, replaced it with a spin in filter, now it only as a few drips a minute, rear main and rear of oil pan has steady drips. always a puddle or two under the engine. I replaced all the gaskets and seals in my 66 K10 with a 350 never had an issue. I don't know what the problem is with this thing.

Re: 283 engine pics
Thanks guys. My 283 is out of a 63 Chevy Biscayne. I noticed yours is Gray color. Is that a factory color, and from what years? As far as oil leaks, mine has oil coming from the cap-like thing in the back of the intake that used to have a vacuum line that went to the 2 barrel carb. Is there supposed to be a gasket on it?

Re: 283 engine pics
LT1 Burb.
That is 1 nice looking engine, frame. While we are on the topic of 283's I have a few questions. Were all truck 283's 2 barrel with single exhaust ? From the factory. Is your P/S pump back adjuster coming off the motor mount ? Almost all alternater adjustment brackets seem to be at the maximum adjustment position. Is that normal. Also have a running argument with a Camero, now Vette guy that truck 283's were gray. He insists that all we orange. Thanks in advance for any comments. Cal. |

Re: 283 engine pics
Yes, all 283's in C10's were 2 barrel single exhaust, Yes, power steering mount comes from motor mount, the belt is an inch long so that is why its at max adjustment, easy fix and yes all C10 V-8s were grey until 66, then 327"s were greenish.

Re: 283 engine pics
hanks LT1. All my questions have been answered as far as color, etc. And I agree, that is one very clean, nice looking engine. I'm hoping to tear down the front sheetmetal on mine in the next few weeks, so will clean and repaint my engine, although it's orange. Also going to try to stop the oil leak on mine as well.

Are you sure about that? i know on the 327s the decal is only on the passenger side valve cover. I presume the same is true of the 283. Or is my memory failing me? Almost everyone seems to get this wrong in their restorations.

The original style is the type that bolts on with short bolts, approx. 3/4" The other one uses approx. 2 1/2" bolts. The one with longer bolts give you more clearance. |

Re: 283 engine pics
OK everyone, I need help here on 2 things. First, I just noticed that when I had my engine worked on about a year and a half ago, the mechanic, took my pcv valve, hose, and the venting "adapter" in the intake off, and lost them. I asked him about it and he doesn't know where it went. Anyways, I need a picture or 2 of this part, and how it looks in the engine, if possible please. Also pic or 2 of the brass fitting for vacuum lines in an intake manifold as well. 283 pics preferred, as I am keeping my original script valve covers.
Thanks |

Re: 283 engine pics
In my pictures it shows the sticker on both valve covers but I had the valve covers swapped. It is now only on the passenger side as it should be.

Re: 283 engine pics
Hi SuperCtruck ! I ended up not being able to use these covers and went with 1968 327 valve covers with a single PCV hole. But , I know Dino has a thread on a blue and white 66 that he made a simple PCV setup on for the script covers . You'll find that here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...t=dino&page=11 . I also have a good friend with a 1957 who drilled and tapped his intake manifold behind the carb and added a shield under the intake for a clean look. Hope this helps.
