New issues - Help !!
Edit: ---> Solved-----> Swervin Ervin--> is the winner !!!!
Thanks Swervin !! Changed out the ditributor, and shazammmmm.... Fires up like a race car and kicks ass.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Got my engine broke in , but it's got issues Specs: Edelbrock 1406 600 CFM -Carb Summit HEI High performance Distributor Power+Plus Polished Manifold Competition Cams 327 - 350 HP Cam Duration .280-.280 / Lift .480 /.480 Lobe separation: 112 (I will double check the cam specs, but should be right.) I am putting all I can think of or done; 1. Timing is jumping between 8-10 degrees 2. Vacuum is weak 3. Hard to start (valves are set right-) --> will back fire through carb (catches fire sometimes) --> have to advance dist higher to start 4. At idle guessing 800-900 rpm, when I put in gear - it dies. Idle is good and runs on it's own otherwise. Last edited by Nvbowtie; 02-29-2004 at 07:12 PM. |

NV,
I don't know anything about your engine, so forgive me if I'm bringing up things you've already checked. It really sounds, as if you have timing issues or a vacuum leak. Have you checked that TDC on the balancer really corresponds to TDC on #1? Brian |

Sounds like my problem I had when I got mine started the first time as well. I was a tooth off on the dist. Check to make sure that you are dead on and retry. Also check for vacuum leaks.

Other than Brian's suggestions, I only wanted to add I don't care for Summit's distributors. I bought one before I got the MSD. I sent it back real quick. The one I got was junk. I never could get my engine to run right with it.

When you mentioned the Summit distributor, a light came on. Although mighty dim, it still came on.
I remember the trouble I had with the one I bought. I tried everything I could to make it work. Something was wrong with the Taiwan made piece of crap. I wasn't going to buy a new distributor and start replacing stuff on it. I also wasn't going to risk sending it back for another one. This is when I bit the bullet and bought the MSD Pro-billet HEI and never looked back. Glad you found the problem and I was able to help. At least I can still win some things. |
