Engine mounts
Hey everyone,
So I'm swapping my 250 I-6 for a Sbc 400 in my 66 GMC Burb and I'm a little lost. I've read a punch of posts and Googled. I can't get a straight answer. I need to know what I need for motor mounts. The 6 had the old tower mounts. Can they somehow be reused or do I need to go a whole different route? Plan on dropping the motor in this weekend. Any help is greatly appreciated I'm at a loss. |

Re: Engine mounts
not sure what you mean by tower mounts. sbc 400 should mount in the same place as 250.

Re: Engine mounts
They have the tower like bracket where the 400 has the flat motor mount. It has a center bolt going into the rubber where the 400 has the mounting bolt going through the side.

Re: Engine mounts
you have a couple of ways to go. you can put the 66 style insulator(motor mount) on the eng and put the eng in. you can put the later frame perch in the 66 or there are after-market tubular style perches for that mount. you may find more info in the FAQ section on it. it will not hurt you to look at the FAQ section as it will have a lot of answers to your questions

Re: Engine mounts
Remove the actual engine mount from the bracket that bolts to the 250 block and bolt it to the side of the 400 block. this after you remove the engine mount that is currently on your 400. It will mount with three 3/8" bolts.

Re: Engine mounts
Ok thanks. I got it now. What threw me off was Summit sent me the wrong pads. Once I looked at it I got it. Thanks for the help.
