1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

I want to do a disc brake conversion on my 1968 C10. I want to keep my wheels, but I'm not sure if they'll clear. Can someone tell me if these will clear? They are 15x8 with ~3.75 backspacing. Thanks

unless you got some crazy oversize rotors should work fine those rims are for newer trucks with disk brakes

I agree these should work fine as long as you are staying with the stock diameter rotors...

Those should be good with that backspacing and stock parts. With mine I had 4.5" BS and had to grind a tiny bit off the edges of the calipers for clearance. Just put them on and spin 'em as a double check.

Re: 1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

You should be fine. Those rally wheels will clear. If you had those 5" wide stock wheels that came on 67-70 pickups, they might be a problem...

Stock rotors and spindles keep everything on the safe side.

A lot of folks don't have knowledge of the 6 lug disc conversion, a smart move in my opinion. I have a 67 and 68, but want to convert both to 5 lug, mostly because I have the stock parts...

Re: 1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

Saw your response to '1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance' thread about rims being late model truck's. Can you tell me what models?

I am putting front disk on a 70 C10 via a 77 'K' member and will put 6 lug rotors on front. I need rims that will clear.

Thanks

That's a tough one... 6 lug disc brake wheels are hard to come by...

Re: 1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

I'm a little confused. 383gmc's picture is a 6 lug rim. firedemon said they were from late model trucks with disk.

So late model rims would or wouldn't fit?

Re: 1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

i think he was pullin yer leg.
any 6 lug chevy wheel after 71-72 will fit.
there is a very slight differnce in the shape of the older(70 and back) drum brake 6 luggers that wont clear on disc brakes.
most common are the 4x4 rally wheels. but there are steelies out there but if ya ask me they are not as common as rally wheels.

Re: 1968 Disc Brake Conversion Rim Clearance

Thanks
From what I read most later models GM's will have the tire too close to the inside and not good.
