LED Placement question

Has anyone mounted an LED Light bar to their truck? I'm wondering if I mount it to the roof of the cab, will the hood obstruct the light and will the glare be too much?

Appreciate the help.

Re: LED Placement question

Carr brand light bars has one that will fit a led bar for your roof.As far as glare depends what light pattern you get,The spot only light bars is what you want the combo ones are spot/flood and the flood like part will give you glare on the hood.As look at the ip rating you want ip68 that is water proof ip67 is water resistant.

Thank you for the info. I didn't know about the ip68 vs 67.

Re: LED Placement question

So I should get one with flood only or will the combo work?

Take a look at these pictures http://www.carid.com/articles/what-a...ad-lights.html they show how each light pattern will work. What i was always top you want spot lights on the roof or close to your head and you want flood lights lower like the bumper. So i would get a spot only just so you won't have glare.

Thank you for the link. I'm finding a lot of light bars are that are combo, spot+flood. Does that mean I can turn one option on at a time or does that mean, both are on all the time?

Re: LED Placement question

When you turn the light on all of it turns on so you get both light patterns,But thinking about it they do sell light bar cover pieces and the flood part is always on the outside part,If the glare is bad you could buy two 10 inch or less covers and place them over the flood part of the light.

That could work. Is there any way to wire it to turn them on independently?

Re: LED Placement question

Not with out cracking open the light bar and messing with the circuit board in it.

Re: LED Placement question

I was thinking about a curved light bar for my Blazer. I saw one mounted with the plates on the windshield and it was bouncing around a lot. I was also thinking about the glare off the hood so now I'm leaning towards one mounted on the front bumper. Maybe three, two spot lights and one center flood...

That's what I've started thinking about doing too...I'd prefer the light higher up for great visibility, but it it's going to reflect of the hood, that won't work. I have heard that a spot light only set up won't shine on the hood, it's the flood lights that do. So maybe a spot light up top and flood lights on the bumper
