A/C Heat

Does anyone recommend a complete kit for an ac/heat unit. I was thinking of this one http://www.classicindustries.com/pro...s/ap6600d.html. Anyone have recommendations?

I am installing an old air system in my truck it is also available as a complete kit. (http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...te-p-8304.html) I loved the factory look of the control with their kit. They also let me swap vents for ones which I mounted in my dash.

I have Old Air installed and have had it at least 10 years. it work great but, if I was doing it now, I would go with Vintage Air, hands down.

Does anybody have pics of how low these systems hang under the dash? The fan and box assembly

Could you please explain why. I bought my truck with Vintage Air already installed by the PO and it works great - never had a problem but I felt if I was going to install a system I would use the Old Air just because of the more factory looking Heat/AC Controls. I never cared for the cheesy plastic A/C vents and did install some A/C vents from a 64 Chrysler that I like Much Better (my opinion only) as stated I've Never had a problem with my Vintage Air system.

Sorry, no pics at the moment, but I installed a VA system. It took a long time to put in, but it's not horribly difficult. Customer service was great. I bought a deluxe heater control set to use, works great. So it looks absolutely factory except the black plastic part that distributes dash level head/AC that hangs below the dash. I will remove that once corvettejim's side vent balls become available.
As far as working well, it is awesome. Cools well, heats well. The only gripe I have is that the floor vent for the driver side sort of hits my high hump and doesn't blow on my feet very well. I will be adding a small section of heater hose to make it dump there better when I get a chance and motivation.

I know about the black plastic vent panel but i was curious as to how low the box itself hangs, like would a tall passenger end up kicking it. How does it look and whatnot

It doesn't hang low, wish I had pics. I've had my 6 foot tall sons in there at the same time, 3 of us across, no worries about kicking the unit.

Actually the box sits up pretty high. You loose about 1/2 of your glove compartment - probably a little more than half. A new glove box liner is included in the kit. Here's the only pics I have on hand at the moment. they were taken a few years ago. The wires you see hanging down are from when I was wiring foot well lights to my truck that came from a 74 C-10. I just didn't want you to think they were part of the Heat - A/C system. If you want better or more specific pictures of the A/C - Heater Box just ask. I can take some beter pictures this weekend.
Yes, it's the same truck - just a lot of "little" improvements along the way in the years between the time the pictures were taken that no one really notices but me. Tilt Column from a 72 Chevy Van slid as close to the dash as I could get. Billet Flamed steering wheel, 64 Chrysler vents, foot well courtesy lights with door jamb switches, 73 C-10 power brake pedal to go along with the 73 Disc Brakes I installed and the suspended 72 C-10 style gas pedal to match the newer style Brake pedal, windshield washer and now the truck has had the front seat reupholstered, power windows & locks installed. Are these trucks ever done? My wife keeps telling me I spend more time with my truck than I do with her. Sad part is at times I think she's right.

I like that. And the dash control panel - you take that apart and have it painted?
I am considering making the dash vents the same way.

Thats the part im not overly happy with is the controls. I too wanted the factory look, although it works, it doesnt work like i think it shouls. Using the electronuc version ( kind of like our trucks heater controls) work better but look nothing like the factory controls.

I also dont like that there isnt any floor heat.

Its in and it works, heat and ac works as it should. I have already replaced the blower motor tho, but its been in for 12 plus years.

The Old Air may be better now but i think the VA systems are better.

Rocknrod - Yes I took the control panel apart to paint it.

Mitchell - At the time I started mocking my dash up I did not know of any other "factory looking" options for vents above the radio so I welded the ashtray hole shut and cut in the two holes for the vents. If I was doing it today I strongly consider one of the center units from corvettejim, they look very original.

Clyde65 - I to did not like the absence of floor heat. Based upon my intended use of the truck I decided it wasn't a big deal for me.

Thanks for the info. Learning what you know I too would have chosen Vintage Air. I want my floor heat in the winter time - if my feet are cold I'm cold. Thanks for explaining for me.

I only have 2 loaded on this computer. This is a Vintage Air system installed by the previous owner. These pictures were taken after I pulled the motor & trans to fix some oil leaks and while I was at it I installed a Lincoln Mark VIII Cooling Fan, a Ford Exploder radiator overflow / windshield washer combo, cleaned & painted the motor, exhaust manifolds, firewall & fender wells and installed the 73 C-10 disc brake set up while everything was out. After all of that I decided it was Margarita Time. Are these trucks ever Done?
