harmonic balancer removal
whats the secret on removing these things.i tried with a harmonic balancer puller/steering wheel puller.it didnt move.i tried with my 3 arm puller,it just remove the outside ring.and also if i do manage to remove it after your advise.how will it go back on without a 8 lbs sledge.oh by the way the motor is in the truck.thanks

We pull them with a regular puller with three screws bolted into the hub. The center part of the puller is set up so that it rests against a 3/8" bolt that is stuck into the end of the crankshaft using an appropriate heavy washer. Without a heavy washer you will push the bolt into the threaded hole when you tighten the center jack screw on the puller.
To install dampers we use a regular installer for purpose. We bought a kit that has different adapter studs to adapt to the particular crank. The installer has a large threaded shaft and a large nut and you pull the damper in by tightening the nut. Jim |
