Tailgate hinge finish?

What was the finish on our trucks tailgate hinges? Body color, argent silver, blasted and cleared? I've seen a few NOS sets that look to be silver or bare metal but I can never tell. Thanks in advance guys

My vote is for some zinc lead plating on the bars and latch catches.

Re: Tailgate hinge finish?

I looked at 3 new takeoff beds in Phoenix a couple years ago. They ranged from 1968 to 1972. The early one had painted straps and latches. The later one had bare zinc/cadmium. I vaguely remember chipping the paint off my 69 when it started peeling after a couple years. It may have varied by year or production location.

Re: Tailgate hinge finish?

I have several sets, all painted. Not to mention all the original paint 71/72s I've had. Maybe the zinc plated are replacements that never got painted.
