weighed my truck today
I am a truck driver and started a new job this week. Finally had a chance to pull up on the scale to see what my 85 swb weighed. With me in it the scale said 3960lbs. Im not sure how accurate it is but its gotta be close so we dont over load the trucks. I was expecting it to weigh more.

What engine and trans? What do you weigh, if you don't mind saying, so we can subtract that out?

Re: weighed my truck today
305/700R4, GMC Sierra Classic so power windows, locks, A/C Cruise, tilt, dual tanks. Does have aluminum wheels. and only using one tank which should be about 3/4 full, fuel gauge inop at the moment. Im about 280lbs. The scale isnt CAT certified but its got to be close so our trucks arent over weight.

Re: weighed my truck today
Both my local landfill scale and metal recyclers scale all say my '77 Silverado SB is 4400lbs with me in it (165lbs). Mind you, one of the two fuel tanks is always full....

Re: weighed my truck today
I know it will depend on options but are some years heavier or lighter than others? Seems a couple members are getting much heavier weights than I did. Not really a big deal to me, I did it out of curiousity more than anything because it was right there.

Re: weighed my truck today
For those curious, a gallon of gasoline is 6.3lbs, so a full 20 gallon tank is 126lbs.

There's going to be a significant spread as you start talking about different models (a C20 or K30 is going to be way heavier than a SWB C10). K

Could there be a 400 lbs swing in the front end sheet metal? ('73-'80 vs '81-'87)? K

Re: weighed my truck today
Weighed my 81 reg cab 2wd stepside. At the time had a 350 sbc. Aluminum intake 4 speed Muncie 10 bolt rear 28 inch MT indy profiles, full interior, bucket seats, custom center console with full stereo. 1/2 tank of fuel 8 gallons. Weight 3860 without me in it. So you're about right.

Re: weighed my truck today
As Keith said, 3/4 tons and up are much heavier. My 83 C20 long bed reg. cab with 454 and SM465 weighs 5600 lbs. with me in it at the landfill scale (I weigh 210 lbs. soaking wet.) GVWR is 8600 lbs., so I can safely carry 3000 lbs. of payload.

Re: weighed my truck today
Also, a 3/4 ton will tow a lot better and get much worse fuel economy.

Re: weighed my truck today
Most of the weight on a 3/4 is from the axle, your bigblock doesn't help. The frame weighs more, yes, but nowhere near as much as the axle.
