Mystery hazard button for NOT-TILT 1971 C-10

My truck has the removable black with white letters button. It's two plastic pieces, a spring and mounts to the column with a small screw. I'm told by many sources the Not-Tilt turn switch should have a red button for hazards, and the one I have is for a Tilt Wheel. I've also been informed the turn switch for Tilt works for Not-Tilt as well.

To my knowledge mine has never been replaced (26 year owner). This may be one of those occasions GM used what they had available. Maybe this poll can solve another mystery.

For what it's worth, my truck was built in Fremont Ca. I don't know what year trucks had the same parts....Thanks for any input/results.

My K20 is an early model-year '72, built in Aug. 1971. I believe it was pure stock when I bought it in spring of 1977. Non-tilt with a red hazard switch.

Re: Mystery hazard button for NOT-TILT 1971 C-10

My truck is 69ish built in Fremont in Dec., 1968. I am 100% sure the original column has a red button. I didn't vote in the poll because I wasn't sure if 71ish includes 69ish.

I don't believe the 2 piece button was available until the mid-70s. Most (all?) GM cars from the 67-72 era used a one piece screw in button. Some of those were black plastic and some (in Olds., Buick, etc.) were chrome steel.

Re: Mystery hazard button for NOT-TILT 1971 C-10

From what I understand from a very good source, the black was original for tilt. That's not to say he means the same as what I've got. I can't say for what years exactly, which is another reason for the 71ish. So if 69ish is the same as 71ish, feel free to vote.

I need a new switch. Leaning toward the red. Incidentally, it's really a three piece isn't it, excluding screw? Mine is like this or close: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Nos-GM-H...9TDjvu&vxp=mtr

Probably 4 piece... 2 plastic pieces, screw and spring. Right? I have rescued 6 tilts, 3 truck, 2 van and 1 RV. I think they all have the multiple piece buttons. So, you may be right there. I've replaced the button for the tilt I put in my truck in my truck with a chrome button just because they are cool. The multi piece buttons are like the eBay listing.

EDIT: If this eBay listing for the chrome button is correct, it appears the chrome button was used in some cars from 67-72.

Cool. All these years I've been driving a van, thought it was a truck. Yep, mine is the same. Can't tell what angle that is. Mine sits 3 o'clock. Imagine all our trucks do.

Yep First, it's four piece counting screw.

ledzepp's pictures look like a tilt. This eBay link seems to confirm the tilts also had red buttons.
