A 425 in My C10...

Well to start the story off right, I went to buy this...
http://home.webifyit.ca/pictures/_NE...eteor_0521.JPG

Which I did ($1000cad, safetied, running...good deal )

Anyhow, the guy had a 455 Olds Super Rocket in the garage, at least we think that's what it is...we snapped some pics of the numbers we can find on it, and I was hoping someone here could tell me if it is a 455 Olds Super Rocket, or if it's just got that air cleaner on it.

Pics of the engine....

The number on the block looks like it says 389241D(?)

And this is a pic of the number on the intake...

And the trans

My second question, if it is a 455 Olds Super Rocket, how hard is it to put in an '86 C10...that currently houses a meager 305.

Hmm...I'm thinking that engine is a 425 Super Rocket...I think that casing number might actually read 389244D

Gibble,

Why not a 454? Pretty easy to mount one of those, as they came from the factory that way. I've got one in my driveway to prove it!

Im pretty sure under all the sludge is a TH400 BOP bellhousing. Is there any way to get a picture of the other side of the transmission? Should be a small tag on it. With that I can see what I can find out about what it came out of.

its no harder to mount an Olds engine than it is to mount a 454. all you need for the Olds is a set of motor mounts from a pre 81 Diesel truck (5.7 L Diesel, which is based on the Olds 350), and its a direct bolt in. might even be able to use Olds Cutlass headers on it, im not 100% sure on that though. shouldnt be much of a hassle to swap in. and 425 or 455, its still going to kill your 305 in performance, and possibly milage too.

Well, I'll probably pick up the engine, since it'll blow my current one away. I'm hopefully going next saturday to do that, and I'll get some more pics of it when I do.

Heck, for $100cad, I can always sell it for a few hun if I don't end up using it in the truck...

By kill milage, you mean worse right...cause right now I'm running with cracked manifolds...so my mileage can't get much worse, lol!

Mounting it sounds pretty simple, but what about the driveshaft, will I need a shorter or longer one?

no, it could kill the milage number, meaning it goes up. since the engine makes more power, it has to do less work. less work = better economy. shouldnt need anything buy a TH400 driveshaft.

Get that Chevy paint off that engine. THe 60 and 70's Rocket motors were gold.

LOL well, I am going to try and see if I can use my uncles shop for :30 minutes or so after I get that engine so I can pressure wash it and drain the fluids.

His shop is 10 minutes from where I am picking it up, so hopefully he's around. And since it's winter here, and I don't have a garage, I'd like it fairly clean so I can take it into the basement and tear it down for a rebuild and some paint before it goes in the truck.
