neutral safety switch

Does anybody have a wiring diagram for a neutral safety switch on a 65 chevy?
I have the switch but no plug.

Re: neutral safety switch

All you need to do is interupt the purple "start" wire from the switch to the starter. You can simply cut the wire approx 8" from the switch, splice in a wire from the switch side to one side of the nuetral safety switch. Run another wire from the other side of the nuetral switch to the wire going to the starter.

Re: neutral safety switch

Thank you for your response tincan1966 maybe I need to clarify. The PO did not have a switch on the column and mo wires that would have lead to it either. I am trying to install one and I don't know where any of the wires should come from.

Re: neutral safety switch

There will only be two terminals on the nuetral safety switch.

Do you have the original ignition switch in the dash?
If yes, then on the back of it there will be a purple wire. The OEM switch will have "start" molded into it at the terminal.Remove the wire from that terminal and run a wire from the switch to one side of the nuetral safety switch. Run another wire from the nuetral safety switch back up to the wire removed from the ignition switch .Make sure to use at least 12ga wire.

All you have to do is interupt the start wire between the ignition switch and the starter.

Re: neutral safety switch

Thank you. I have one more question then. There are 4 posts on the back of the switch, what are the other two for? I believe what you are saying. I am just wondering.

Re: neutral safety switch

Sorry I should have said there will only be two terminals you will need . the other two are for backup lights.

The two you need will be the ones parallel to each other in the middle. The other ones in an "L" shape are for backup lights.
