Shift indicator

I'm wanting to the little red shift indicator that points to the gear your in. I pulled the broken one out a job in it's self. The replacement I got from LMC have a zigzag bend in it about 1/2" back from the front. I tried to just slip it down in but it is hitting a stop or the little bend can't get through the slot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill
