Re: Door Logo Ideas

Please if you go with a faded paint job make the logo look old to match. Nothing like a fresh logo on an old paint job to make it look well new when it should look old.

That's the idea. My son did that on his shop truck. Up close it looks older than it is.

it is not a suburban but was an ambulance stretched out to 145" w/b.
I think that he is throwing some part or whatever over by the fence. that building beside it is the back side on an autobody and just to the right was an autowrecking yard.
a tow truck operator told me about that ambulance and I had called the auto wreckers about it and it didn't sound to promising and about 10 months later a friend of mine was getting body work done out in Sooke,( and if you have ever seen the movie "Deliverance", i think that some of their relatives live out there) and he had to go to the autowrecker for some parts for his 67 F350 and I went with him. there was the ambulance sitting there so I asked about it and they said that it belonged to the a/body next door but to not go over there as they get annoyed (a/b) when the wreckers customers go over there. the frt end had very little rust. I went back out there to see it and bought it for $500.00 and have parted it out for parts for my suburban body. even the motor runs good which I have put in mine after taking out the Detroit diesel.
there was a fellow in Ok that wanted the rear side doors and frames so I cut them out and I think that he was forced out of business. he was going to build a 63 gmc 6 x6 crewcab with a 702 V12 in it. he called me to hold on to them, but I think that time has run out so unfortunately I have run out of space so I have a load going to the scrap yard in a couple of weeks. there were parts of the truck that did have rust problems
the rear inner fenders and the metal floor strips and a few other things were just like new as they were all covered up. the rear threshold plates(GMC) I don't think were ever stepped on, same as the window and door regulators, which I am all using.
it also had one of those 62 amp delcotron alternators on it and that went to a fellow in Ark that is going to rebuild a 62 belair s/w with a 409/409 and that was the optional alt for a 63 409/409 that the vehicle came eqipped wit special equipment (sirens and 2 way radio). generators were std equip on other 62's.
the frt doors would been fairly decent if they hadn't off cut the old Garden City Ambulance signs out of them.
this was amongst the last private ambulances in the province of B.C. before it was taken over by the government and run by them

I would ask, why not just restore the ambulance.. But i'm sure you had your reasons.

I am rebuilding a suburban body to replace the panel body on my 4 x 4. the panel was repaired along time ago and just has to much rust esp in the roof where it was repaired once before I ever had it(i have had it and driven it for 19 years). my suburban body has some issues but they are all lower down. I think that we are all just suckers for punishment fixing these thing.
the ambulance had some rust issues ( repairable though) and it came without registration. I do appreciate the 115" w/b to 145". little easier to park. it gave me a lot of OEM parts esp frt end that don't need much repair work . it completed pretty well all the parts that I required. I have all the a/market sheet metal but now I don't have to use it.
the ambulance has had the benifit of helping other trucks to survive
ron
and I am not really happy with these trucks being low and think that they look better being up there. that is a matter of personal aesthics and not a reflection on how any one else have their trucks sitting
