HELP! I need to verify a 1966 Fleet side short bed vin number verses a step side!

Hello,
I need to verify that this truck is a factory fleet side not a factory step side and the bed changed out.

Is this a factory shortbed fleet side truck vin I have heard this was a short bed step side but i have not seen a vin with 34 in it.

not seen this C14346Axxxxxx no such thing?

C1446Axxxxxx is this a factory step side or fleet side or are they the same? if not a factory fleet side what would the vin look like?

This truck looks untouched and all original.

If not a factory fleet side what would the vin look like or like I mentioned before are they the same in the vin regardless.

C14?6Axxxxxx please let me know asap thanks

Not to rob your post, but I know what you're going through. Mine is a C1435xxxxx. The 3 is what? Best I can tell, is that mine was a panel at one time and now a stepside. Lol

C1434 according to the GM heritage center data is a SWB Fleetside
https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-...tion-kits.html

Near as I figure, LMC forgot a character in their Vin description

BTW, C1404 is a SWB stepside C1435 is a LWB fleet

There is no way to know if it was a fleet side or step side without the build sheet, only if it is a lwb or swb.

Smile Re: HELP! I need to verify a 1966 Fleet side short bed vin number verses a step side

In more research, the vin would not have had C14346 for a fleet side, I have not seen one vin like that at all with a additional number added like that. All the other 1966 Fleet sides short beds I have checked have had the beginning vins C1446, the 14 is short bed and 4 is for pickup NOT step side. That 04 or 34 is not in the vin and irrelevant, it must be on the build sheet or somewhere else when ordered new. I spoke to a guy today who has a original 66 short bed fleet side and his vin is C1446, and another post for who found 15 of 16 1966 short bed fleets all C1446 let there be no confusion, it is not in the vin, it is elsewhere. 4 is for pickup only on the 65/66 vins.

The hardest part is figuring out if you are looking at the model number or the VIN/serial number. After having a 64 and it being so easy to identify since I had the title in hand, I went through a bit of head scratching trying to ID my 66.

Re: HELP! I need to verify a 1966 Fleet side short bed vin number verses a step side

Ya, but you had it correct. LMC has the CORRECT chart and they are correct along with the other gentlemen's quote that the vin does not tell you if it is a fleet side or step side, all are short beds C1446 (66) or C1445 (65) the vins are the same. I looked a bunch of truck vins up and C1446 or C1445 - C 1/2 ton, 14-short bed, 4 is for pickup, NOT step side in the vin number. They would NOT have 04 or 34 in the vin. You would have to have the build sheet or order sheet, to see that if even it was on there.
