Thumbs up Posi Rear end

I just got my 12 bolt rearend re-built. I switched it to a posi with 3.73 gears. It looks really nice. Rearend Specialties in Santa Clara did the work. To bad it will be a long time before I can see it work ( My truck is in pieces).

How much did it cost to have the rear converted to a posi? What was involved in the change? I'm thinking about doing it for my dana 60.

A buddy and myself just rebuilt the 72 307 possi that I have for my panel. Wasn't near as bad as I had it made it out to be..LOL I replaced the original clutches with carbon clutches also... I am painting it now and will be doing the brakes before I set it under my panel. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I did my 12 bolt w/ new Eaton posi ,gears, bearings, axles, fluids and labor right around $1200. I have yet to try it....but soon

wes, did you decide to put rear discs on it? i think it would be a good idea to show off some of your products. like when someone asks hey your trucks got 4 wheel discs whered you get em you can say you sell them and you got a potential customer right there!

To answer you question, it cost me $871.00. I had towed the frame without fluid in the rear, so all the bearing melted. Like Wes said, it doesn't look to be that hard, I just wanted it done right.

was stuck in oregon with blown rearend-repair shop quoted me $2400-to convert (308)to posi replacing everything-had to pass on that! bought truck down there - rearend dry

Sounds like you are ready for some !!

I am too, I just bought an Eaton HO52 with a No-Spin for my truck, 4.56 gears, I can't put it in right away either...can't wait for it. then i can too!

Yeah I heard rear end specialties does great work.. All my buddies have gone there and had no problems what so ever.. I have a dana 44 I might get beefed up.

dinnut, I am not going to go with rear disk right now. Just plowing too much money into it for that added expence. If the drums would have been bad, then I would have converted. My rear end has the heavy duty finned drums on it and those wouldn't have been cheap to replace. I was able to turn them so I decided to stay drum. Sometime in the future I will probably go with rear disk, just not right now. I got realy lucky with the gears though. They were in exelent condition!! I was just going to replace the pinion seal, but when I pulled it I went ahead and pulled the front pinion bearing. It was badly pitted from moisture and sitting in one possition too long, so I decided to tear the rear end down. The inner was pitted also. So I replaced all of the bearings and while I was at it I replaced the stock clutches with carbon clutches. I will have about $350.00 in it with all new bearings, clutches, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hardware and paint. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Seems like we all have not been able to try out of new rear ends. I too have had my rear end rebuilt It costes $1100 CDN. New Baer Gears, bearings, clutches. I cant wait till I can drive it mabye this summer ....

what about those lockright things(the locker that just replaces the spider gears)-they cost about $400 and don't require any special tools to install-I'm pretty sure they make one for 12 bolts-anybody have any experience with them?good/bad?
