Front E Brake cable seized

Hi guys,

I'm trying to test the results of my brake overhaul but I want to make sure I have the e brake working for obvious reasons.

The eBrake pedal has be frozen in the off (all the way to the top) since I have bought the truck. It's stiff as hell and wont push down at all. I have inspected all other cables and they are fine.

Is this likely a frozen front cable or something else I could be missing?

What year and model?

Check the pedal mechanism and look for damage / binding. You can unhook the cable at the pedal end, and check the pedal by itself for proper movement. If that looks good then grab hold of the unhooked cable and try moving it manually.

Front Range its a 78 and thanks for the advice.

I thought about that exact trouble shooting route after I sprayed a bunch of penetrating oil and let it sit overnight...I was able to get it to budge a bit more but not nearly enough...I will disconnect to ensure the pedal is working correctly.

So it turns out this was an easy one created by lack of experience.

I had tightened the cable too much after doing the rear brakes...I loosened it off a lot and now operates correctly. I think I will test out the rear drum clearances again before taking it out on the road to do the self adjust test...feel like I'm almost there

That's the part that threw me, sounded like you bought it that way. Glad you got it figured out.

Yeah I was mistaken, I never had a chance to test it since I bought the truck and just ASSumed it was another thing that was needing attention.

Looking back I should have tested it before I even tore into the brake system overhaul.
