SPID-Special? Keith S.?

So I took Keith's advice and made contact with the gentleman he recommend. Great guy and looks to be a great quality product.

I sent pics of my original 1974 SPID from the drivers inner fender. After the heavy duty clutch it lists $11.

He says he has seen over 800 SPID's from 67-86 and has never seen a dollar ($) symbol after anything or on any SPID?

Anyone else??????

Wonder what it means or why its there?

Re: SPID-Special? Keith S.?

I checked the 1974 and 1975 generic info packets in the GM Heritage center archive; there was no mention of HD clutch RPO M01 in either one (although the '75 packet did show prices for the various RPOs).

My sense is that it is not a price, but some kind of processing code with a "$" as an indicator (we see that often, particularly in powertrain software, where symbols *&%$#@ are used to start the code and don't mean what they normally do in layperson's terms).

In any case I do not recall ever seeing that before, either.

Re: SPID-Special? Keith S.?

M01 was the standard Chevrolet code for heavy duty clutch;I have seen it on Chevelles before.

Keith is likely right about the dollar sign being an indicator...I am speculating here but the 11 may refer to the clutch disc diameter for the HD clutch.

FWIW: The 1969 Corvette Code for "Heavy Duty Clutch" was "MA".

That makes sense it is a 11". Instead of a - they used a $?
