Were the door striker bolt tips painted during factory paint?

Just curious worked on my stiker bolts lately and mine I noticed the round tips on mine along with the 3 washers are covered in blue paint.

My truck has never been hit but it was repainted by GM in 1991 under paint clear coat recall.

Needs paint again and curious if thats the way it should be from the factory or not kinda taking note how to tell the paint guy I want items such as this done…

truck is an 87

thanks for any insight

Re: Were the door striker bolt tips painted during factory paint?

My research of late indicates that not only were the strikers commonly painted but so was the latch mechanism in the door as well as the three screws holding it in place. This gives the appearance of a repaint in the door jamb area. My 86 looks like this and so has all the donor trucks I have collected parts from.

Mine looked this way too. I just assumed it was caused by sloppy repainting, which the truck has been repainted. Since then, I've replaced the striker with a new one that has the bushing on it.

Striker pins were painted, as they were installed in the cab shop (where the bodies were welded, before paint).

For vehicles that were ELPO dipped primer: Latch mechanism was not painted, as the ELPO dip process gums them up. Latches were installed in trim, after paint. My '87 (Flint Assembly, built September of 1986) was like this.

For vehicles that were sprayed primer: latch mechanism was installed in cab shop and painted (because that's how it was done back then).
