Brakes found on 1969 CST/10 Pickup

Hi

Curious I am looking to buy a truck 1969 CST/10 Pickup, I see a master booster and master cylinder, does this mean the front brakes could be disk brakes from the factory? Were they offered EVER or is this a power assist manual drum brake setup?

I have a 1969 C-10 CST and it had power brakes, but with drum all the way around. I am not sure if disc was offered in "69 or not.

Although there has been some speculation that some of the last 1970 model C10's etc. had disc brakes none has ever been verified on this site. Disc brakes were standard equipment starting in the 1971 model year. As a footnote even though disc brakes were standard you could still order a truck without power brakes so you'd have manual disc brakes. Your truck with power drum brakes is factory and not uncommon.

A booster and master cylinder doesn't mean disc brakes. There are power assisted drum brakes. Check behind the wheel for a drum. If there are discs there... they were swapped in as no 1969 truck came from the factory with disc brakes.

I'm in the process of swapping 1972 disc brakes over to a 1969 frame.

Re: Brakes found on 1969 CST/10 Pickup

Power drums from the factory on the 69 CST trucks (generally speaking, could be different in Canada ?) and as others have said if the truck happens to have disc on it they have been added at some point.

But, no it's not save to assume disc because of the booster / MC.

Welcome to the board !

Thumbs up Re: Brakes found on 1969 CST/10 Pickup

No shop manuals for 70 and back mention disc brakes for repair so the answer is No!
The only way it would have disc brakes up front is if someone has changed them out. Look at the wheel studs. The 69 should be 6 lugs! If it was a swap they would be 5 lugs inless they used a aftermarket kit.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Brakes found on 1969 CST/10 Pickup

Thanks everyone, the truck is in usa and appears to have 6 lug nuts on rear so assume from has 6 as well. Can't see a disk brake upgrade being done.

Will have to have a look but will start another thread on that!

Thanks!

Agreed with most of the above - Disc brakes were ever an option in 1969 model trucks. At least I have never seen any documentation to prove such - Documentation is the key
