Re: fenderwell headers?

Maybe this will help some to the OP and others.....

Small Block specs for the Speedway headers

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/S-B-Ch...ders,3821.html

•Primary Tube Diameter: 1-5/8"
•Collector Diameter: 2-1/2"
•Header Flange Type: Round Port
•Gasket Ports: 1-7/8" x 1-3/8"
•Base of flange to bottom of collector is 9"
•At approximately 6" from flange at 2nd bend, there is about 2" of drop from flange
•At approximately 15" from flange at 3rd bend, there is about 4" of drop from flange

Big Block specs for the Speedway headers

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Big-Bl...ders,3830.html

•32" primary tube length
•2" primary tube diameter
•3-1/2" collector diameter
•A = 25-1/4"
•B = 5-1/2"
•C = 29-3/4"
This header actually goes upward from the head instead of down before dropping over the frame rails. From the top of the head flange to the top of the tubes is approximately 9-1/2".

Re: fenderwell headers?

If you want fender well headers, build them or have them built. I had about 5 different sets of headers, sent them all back. My engine is set back a few inches. I think this was the majority of the fitment issues.

Pissed away about $300 in shipping (returns), and I still had to have a set built for me. (I was looking for 1 7/8" primaries) I think they cost about $1100-1200 once the were coated. Mine are mild steel, the guy who built mine said stainless starts out about $3000 w/good merge collectors.

just my 2 cents

Re: fenderwell headers?

Had Mark at Maddog headers build me a set of 2 1/8 X 4". Just got them a few weeks go. They are different than the ones on his website.

Re: fenderwell headers?

For those running sbc and moving the engine back use Schoenfeld 78 up g body headers. Have to move the motor back at least 4 inches. This is what I used on my truck. Only clearance issue is lower firewall. I just clearance with a hammer

Those do look nice. Should work on the 60's trucks as well.

Re: fenderwell headers?

We can build just about anything you want. Have not seen many production options for this myself. We do a lot of fender exit stuff just typically after the turbo

Building headers is beautiful on so many levels, but many of the welders doing it have gotten to the point that they think its 'art'.... and it costs just as much as Rembrandts!

In racing we need economy priced parts to make it out there.... think of the "LITTLE GUYS"....

I agree with you 100% unfortunately material is not cheap nor are a nice set of name brand headers, much less a well made custom header with nice collectors and flanges. If there was a market for say 50 pairs of headers we could do something a lot cheaper than a single 1 off set. Spending many hours to make one set doesn't allow to make up for labor and material cost over time. We are trying to get a mandrel bender which would cut down on cost for everyone but that is a expensive piece of equipment.

If you are on a budget it can sometimes be best to buy a set or headers that fit and modify them to work with your application. I was talking to a customer the other day who was quoted 2800$ for a set of headers by a very well known shop in san Antonio, only to be charged 3900 once the job was finished. I personally think that was robbery!!! Even a set of 321 headers shouldn't cost that much.

What would you charge for fender well exit headers on a 64 c10. 1 7/8 primary to 3.5 collector? My motor is moved back 4". I live close to Houston so I can bring the truck to you for fitment.
