I'm starting the restoration on my 71 CST Blazer and built a rotisserie. I lifted the body off the frame today and plan on mounting to the rotisserie tomorrow. I braced the door openings and took measurements to baseline things. I prefer not to mount it to the rotisserie by the underneath frame rails...I want to be able access and completely finish the entire underbody without having any mounting hardware in the way.

Is there any downside to mounting the rotisserie frame to the firewall where the frame rails end? I'll sandwich the rotisserie frame and another piece of square tube on the inside of the firewall. This will actually give a better balance overall. On the rear I'll do the same to the rear pan.

Thoughts?

Kind of hard to see, but I bolted the body onto the rotisserie with 5" x 1.5" aluminum tubing I had laying around. I was able to sand/paint everything minus those 4 areas, which I touched up sitting on the frame before bolting it down.

I never felt it was in the way at all. These are the best pictures I have of it, never thought to take a detail shot.

Here's how I mounted mine. I opted for 4 locating points per end to prevent any twisting where the mounts bolt to the body. Worked good for me, and all I had was 8 small areas that I couldn't metal finish. These were covered with chassis mounting bolts anyway so it didn't matter.
Regardless of where you mount it, you'll always have a few spots that can't be reached.

Thanks for the pics guys! I was able to mount mine using the firewall and tail pan with some reinforcements. It's solid as a rock and steady so I now have totally clear access to the underside. To my delight, it's in really good shape. Just ordered some torsion boxes and I'll start replacing metal. Build thread will be up soon.

Mounting it that way, does it allow you to be able to turn the tub completely over? It appears to. That seems like it would make a lot easier when doing the rocker boxes. I have never used a rotisserie but that sure looks like a nice way to work without killing the back.

Yes, I have full rotation with 100% access to the underside. So far it hasn't flexed at all (door reinforcements in place). Should be interesting when I replace the torsion boxes!!
