Tilt column question.

Is there a way tighten up a tilt column that has a little play in it? Would it be an adjustment from the top or bottom? Is it just a bushing in the middle? My ears are wide open here

this question seen it a lot I'm not a fan of tilt columns.Think of this what is the one thing you grab when you enter the truck on the driver side the steering wheel I mean after you open the door dummy.

People use the steering wheel 80% of the time it's going to keep happening until you stop doing it.If you have a guy near you that works on GM older car's and trucks he will charge you 50.00 to 80.00 you really have to take the column apart and put loctight with the screws

First you have to figure out where the play you're feeling is coming from. Could be the upper bearings aren't properly adjusted; could be that the tilt mechanism's base isn't tightly bolted to the column; could be play within the tilt mech itself. I'm in the middle of a teardown/rebuild of my tilt column, and although there are a lot of parts, it's not as complicated as I'd feared before digging into it. If I were in your shoes, I'd disassemble the column and see what I found. That's what I did, anyway.

Thanks for the info. I bought the column used, and the plat in it isn't too bad, for now. In the future when I get my new shop done, I'll be able to lay out everything on white sheets to keep from losing anything.
