The brakes seem to work just fine to me. Solid pedal feel, and unless I stand on it, they stop without any lockups. I have been running it like this for over a year now.

Yeah, when staying with 4-wheel drums there really isn't any need to add a proportioning valve. The proportioning is already taken care of by the sizing of the front vs. rear wheel cylinders. Splitting the system with a dual master cylinder doesn't change that.

Making other changes (like swapping to front disc brakes) is a different story though.
