73-80 fender questions
I have what I believe to be a pair of NOS fenders. Sometime ago, someone had already started their primer and edge work so no boxes or stickers on these. What I am asking is if anyone has a pair of GM fenders and someone that has some aftermarket fenders, if they could weigh them and let me know the weights. Also, I would like to see some pictures of the bolt hole areas. Where the radiator support bolts up, the washer bottle, and the hinges of both the GM and aftermarket fenders. Thanks, Matt

Re: 73-80 fender questions
Are you just trying to determine if they are NOS? If so, look for GM part numbers stamped on inside.

Re: 73-80 fender questions
With all of the GM fenders that I have had, I have never seen GM part numbers stamped in them (never looked honestly) any idea where they might be? Or are they just in random spots?

Re: 73-80 fender questions
I haven't noticed if (or where) GM stamped the numbers on these fenders.
However, I have seen them with a "GM" logo stamped about middle way up along the rear edge. |

Re: 73-80 fender questions
Good point Ray. Here is a pic a seller sent to me when I bought a set a while back.

Re: 73-80 fender questions
^^ Yup that's the GM stamping I was thinking about!
Also, I parted out a 73 a few years ago and noticed that the fenders that year were a little different on the inside. On the driver side, the windshield washer reservoir slid down into sort of a V-shaped stamping on the fender instead of being attached with bolts. And on the passenger side, there were provisions to mount the lug wrench and/or jack handle to the inside edge of the fender instead of on the inner fender. I'm guessing those differences were only on 73 (and maybe 74) fenders that were factory installed on the assembly line. All the GM service replacement (and aftermarket) fenders I've seen have been the later 74/75 to 80 style. |
